FIRST® volunteers are part of a global robotics community preparing young people for the future. FIRST competitions and events are made possible by volunteers, including employees of corporate sponsors, teachers, parents, community leaders, and others. From a few hours to events all year long, every role helps students grow, learn, and thrive. Whether you want to spend your time learning firsthand from our teams, helping plan and organize the event, or want to be right where the action is on the playing field, there is a role for you. Mentor a Team

Want to dedicate your time and expertise to teams directly? From finding their people to finding their path, team mentors help students gain the skills and confidence to forge ahead and build their future with FIRST. As a FIRST team coach or mentor, you help students build confidence, solve real-world problems, and thrive through hands-on STEM projects. Whether you are starting a robotics team or mentoring an existing team, your support changes lives.

Volunteer at the Event

Volunteers make the FIRST Robotics Competition in the Intermountain West a success! We want all FIRST volunteers to feel confident in their roles – from judging to safety goggles and registration to field resets. Want to connect your organization to FIRST? We offer opportunities to volunteer as a group at local events and matching gift programs with many companies, allowing employees to double their impact either through time or money.

Make an Impact Year Round

As a member of the Impact Steering Committee, you are part of a team that helps guide and support the region. This is not a fiduciary or governing role, but your voice, effort, and collaboration matter. Together, we work alongside the Regional Director to support teams, mentors, volunteers, and sponsors while staying aligned with FIRST’s mission, vision, and values.
